Barton grabs two more at Richmond

New signing Gavin Barton grabbed a second successive brace of goals as Aycliffe defeated Wearside League newbies Richmond Town at Earls Orchard.

Barton - formerly of Spennymoor, Consett and Sunderland RCA - netted his first goals for the Newtonians on Wednesday evening at home to Percy Main and he followed it up with two more yesterday as Allan Oliver's men recorded back-to-back victories,

Winger Stuart Owen netted the Newtonians' third to follow up his pre-season strike against the club's Development Squad but after a host of changes from Oliver, Town managed to claw themselves back into the game.

Rory Atkinson reduced the arrears before a strike from Mark Sims gave the Newtonians something to think about but the Northern League side held out to claim the win.

Next up for Oliver's charges is a trip to Alliance outfit Gateshead Leam Rangers on Wednesday evening before they host Blue Square North side Harrogate Town on Friday night.
