Fred Woodhouse, Newton Aycliffe's 18-year-old debutant, crashed onto the Northern League scene in remarkable fashion, scoring a hat-trick and making two more as Allan Oliver's men crushed his former club Crook Town in this Easter derby encounter.
The scoreline was maybe an unfair reflection on the Black & Ambers, who started the game with just 10 men and by the time they had their full allotment midway through the first period, found themselves five goals behind, with top scorer Gavin Barton a notable absentee.
However, many that did turn up are regular starters and nothing should be detracted from what was an astounding display of attacking prowess by Aycliffe.
Chris Wilson, Crook Town's Newtonian goalkeeper, made a string of top class saves as Aycliffe piled on the pressure in this record breaking victory whilst Scott Brassell, another Newtonian, smashed home a thunderous free-kick with Aycliffe eight goals to the good.
In addition to Woodhouse's treble, there was a brace of penalties for Mark Wood, a double for Elliot Gardner – his third in as many games – and a goal each for Dan Mellanby, Josh Knox and a wonder strike by Anth Campbell.
Graham McTaggart tapped home in injury time for the visitors to reduce the arrears.
