Match report

More than 260 fans baked in the Moore Lane heat, but there was nothing remotely warming about the football, as Newton Aycliffe and Guisborough cancelled each other out in a game starved of any real goalmouth action.
Guisborough captain David Onions came close to breaking the deadlock twice but Stevie Richardson was equal to the visitor’s top scorer on both occasions, keeping his second clean sheet in four days.
The constant interruption in play which lent to five minutes of injury time didn’t help either side, and nor will the resulting injuries, Aycliffe’s John Close departing late on with a calf complaint.
Elliot Gardner completed his first 90 minutes since the game at North Shields on August 15th and another run out for Dave Forrest will be welcome for boss Allan Oliver who had the luxury of picking from a squad of 21 players.
Aycliffe now turn to the road and with five away games scheduled before Stokesley visit Moore Lane Park, Oliver and his team will be hoping both the support off the pitch and the defensive displays on the pitch continue as they look to put a miserable month behind them.
