Match report

By Martin Walker
New boy Chris Smith got off the mark on his debut for Aycliffe as Allan Oliver’s side comfortably won their Durham Challenge Cup preliminary tie at home to Peterlee Town.
The 17-year-old striker, signed from Durham City this week, doubled Aycliffe’s advantage just before half-time after left winger Wayne Hall put the home side ahead in the seventh minute.
An insipid second-half then ensued as Aycliffe booked their place in the next round.
Plus points were the second-half substitute appearances of centre-back Dave Forrest, returning from a lengthy lay-off after a hernia operation, striker Elliot Gardner, out for four weeks with an ankle injury, and left winger Kyle Swankie, who completed his five-week suspension at the weekend.
