On a cold night at Moore Lane Park, over 140 turned out to witness Allan Oliver's side chalk up their sixth cup win of the season without reply, against the side who gave the Aycliffe boss his first chance at the Northern League management game.
Sentiment counted for nothing and after a poor opening half hour which saw Stuart Banks nod West in front despite being the shortest man on the pitch, Oliver's Army took control.
A strong Anth Campbell run saw him find Elliot Gardner 12-yards out and with a slick turn and shot, Aycliffe's top scorer found the back of Billy Hanson's net via the left upright with half time looming.
Despite a very one-sided second half and with the game heading for extra time Gardner spared the anxious crowd further exposure to the elements. Following a great run and cross from the impressive Stuey Owen, Gardner peeled off his man and met the left-wing centre with the sweetest of right foot volleys from 15-yards given the angle. Hanson left with no chance on 85 minutes.
A late Banks effort almost brought the extra period but in pulling his shot wide he ensured Aycliffe's passage to the last-16.
