Match report

By Paul McGeary
Newton Aycliffe extended their lead at the top of the second division with an emphatic 5-0 away win at local rivals Darlington Railway Athletic.
Allan Oliver's side also set a new club record of eight games unbeaten, as they notched their 14th goal at Brinkburn Road in just three games.
Five different names on the scoresheet also pleased Oliver, as his side brushed the RA aside on a greasy night in front of a bumper crowd in excess of 300 - almost three times the Railwaymen's previous best this season.
Paul Broom opened the scoring on 19 minutes, calmly rounding 'keeper Phil Pentony after Craig Mickle's header was weakly backpassed into his path via James Howlett in the game's first real goalscoring opportunity.
Pentony's failure to hold Mickle's shot on 36 minutes led to the visitors' second, Elliot Gardner on hand from six-yards to mop up for his fifth goal of the season - his 25th in just 52 games for the Newtonians in their Northern League existence.
Within 30-seconds of the restart, Broom almost got his second, but this time Pentony's parry was enough to see the 20-yard effort go wide of his right-hand upright to give the Railwaymen certain hope - although they never really threatened Scott Pocklington's goal other than a handful of long-range efforts - more capable of breaking windows then pulling pegs out of the soggy ground.
Captain Sean Tarling got the third goal of the evening, expertly slotting home Gardner's overhead pass following Mickle's through-ball on 55 minutes and the former Whitehill striker got his first goal in Aycliffe colours seven minutes later when he outpaced two defenders before lofting the ball over Pentony from 16-yards with his favoured left-foot for the goal of the game.
22 minutes from time and the visitors nearly spoilt a great night at the back when some sloppy defending left former Aycliffe forward Phil Caley free inside the area having robbed Pocklington on the byline. The 21-year-old's pull-back found Paul Freary on the penalty spot but his goalbound effort was superbly blocked on the line by the towering Mark Peck.
Substitute Josh Knox completed the rout on 73 minutes, tucking home the ball after Pentony had failed to hold Mickle's swivelled effort and from there-on-in, Aycliffe passed the ball around with aplomb, drawing foul-after-foul from their opponents, who were growing increasingly frustrated by their evening's work, which by the standards they have set in rising to eighth in the table, were well below par.
Star Man - Craig MICKLE
Paul Broom was fantastic for the 65 minutes he had on the park whilst Sean Tarling's goal rounded off what was a tremendous captain's perfomance from the Aycliffe number six. However, for the way in which he led the line, his hand in four of the goals and his great solo goal, Mickle claims the spoils ahead of his teammates to cap a wonderful four weeks since joining the club.
