Match report

By Paul McGeary
This game was turned on it's head after a moment of madness which saw goalkeeper Scott Pocklington - arguably Aycliffe's best performer so far this season - dismissed for dissent late on.
The former Darlington 'keeper saw red after 80 minutes with Aycliffe in cruise control, and with midfielder Dion Raitt donning the gloves, Guisborough laid seige to the Gretna-end goal and stole the points with an amazing comeback.
In a first half battle, which saw visiting midfielder Austin Johnston also sent from the field for a two-footed lunge on Chase McMullen, Aycliffe should have been two goals to the good. Dan Mellanby drew a save from goalkeeper Jon McDonald after five minutes whilst Fred Woodhouse missed a one-on-one with the same man on 35 minutes. The former Stockton man firing wide of goal on his return to the starting 11 following a dead-leg.
The Priorymen's first show on goal almost brought the game's opener, with David Onions outstripping John Close before rounding Pocklington after 66 minutes. Guisborough's "Dangerous One" saw his goalbound effort blocked by the recovering Close whilst Luke Bythway's follow-up was superbly smothered by Aycliffe's number one.
Just a minute later and the 200-plus crowd got what they came for. Raitt - a first half change for the injured Josh Knox - fed the ever-impressive Dan Mellanby who in turn found Sean Tarling with a square ball and the midfielder fired home from around the penalty spot to record his first goal of the season.
Four minutes later and Aycliffe doubled their lead through substitute Warren Byrne. Mellanby again the provider and the former Shildon striker notched his third goal for the club, shooting low across goal and in off McDonald's right-hand post. Of Aycliffe's 10 goals to date this season, a remarkable six have came from players introduced from the bench.
With 10 minutes to go the horror show began. Close got caught in possession on half way and Onions descended on goal. Pocklington did well to again smother but the loose ball ran to striker Chris I'anson who stroked the ball into the empty net, with Onions appearing to hinder Pocklington's recovery.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper then launched a stinging attack upon referee Mike Carr who had no other option than to send the giant 'keeper from the field for foul and abusive language.
Raitt took the gloves and the dynamic of the game changed with the visitors launching long, high balls into the area for Onions and I'anson to feed off. The equaliser came from a left-wing corner with just six minutes remaining. Raitt got caught in no-man's-land and after a scramble in the six-yard box, I'anson got the final touch to an Onions overhead kick, with Tarling unable to prevent the ball from crossing the line.
Then with just two minutes on the clock, Guisborough got the goal which saw them replace their hosts at the top of the table. Lee Bythway hung a high ball into the area which crashed down of Raitt's crossbar. Under pressure from Onions, defender Michael Heckley could only help the ball into the net to seal a dramatic fightback for the Priorymen.
Star Man
Dan Mellanby - rolling back the years with a great start to the season. Provided both goals and turned his markers inside out all afternoon.
