By Paul McGearyNewton Aycliffe got their rain-soaked pre-season campaign off to a delayed start by defeaating their Development Squad 4-1 at Longfield Academy.The game was put back three days and venue switched as Moore Lane Park gets wrapped in cotton wool ahead of next Friday's showdown with Premier League giants Sunderland.Allan Oliver chose from a full squad of players and after three weeks of intense fitness work, the Aycliffe manager felt his stable benefitted from the exercise."The lads looked sharp. They've been doing some tough work without the ball with both Gary (Farley and Dan (Lewis) and this transmitted through today as they all looked sharp."Friday will be another tough work out for them, and we're training inbetween so the lads are gearing up nicely for the start of the campaign."Young striker Stephen Bogie - signed from Sunderland West End in March - got the scoring underway as early as the 7th minute with winger Stuart Owen doubling the lead six minutes later as the Newtonians overawed their fledgling counterparts.Oliver made changes at the break, shuffling his deck and former Sunderland midfielder Nathan Wilson warmed up for the visit of his former side by netting the third shortly after the restart.San England pulled a goal back for Steve Grocott's youngsters but Wilson had the final say by closing the scoring in the final minutes.Aycliffe now turn their attentions to Friday night and Sunderland, with fans advised to arrive early to Moore Lane Park in advance of the 7.30pm kick off time to avoid quesuing and potential delays.Newton Aycliffe FC vs Sunderland AFC XIMoore Lane Park, Newton AycliffeDL5 5AGKick off 7.30pm.
