Newton Aycliffe FC v Billingham Synthonia

Newton Aycliffe marched to the top of the Northern League with a resounding 4-0 victory against Billingham Synthonia.
Former Synner Danny Earl carried on his flying start to the campaign with another double, while Jamie Owens got on the scoresheet for the third time in two appearances and Danny Lambert opened his goalscoring account for the season.
The result put the Newtonians top of the table at this early stage in the campaign – the first time the Royal Blues have occupied the position since August 2011, during their maiden first division voyage.
Aycliffe were led out in a competitive game by John Close for the first time, while Danny Lambert replaced the injured Dan Mellanby.
The first time these two sides met at Moore Lane Park, Earl scored a hat-trick for the green-and-white-hooped-side. This time he was banging them in wearing Royal Blue.
His first goal was a delicate lob that gave the home side an early lead, before he doubled the advantage shortly before half-time with a well-taken shot from close range.
The only thing missing from the front-man’s game was a third goal. He went close on numerous occasions in the second-half, but a treble ultimately proved elusive.
But his team-mates were chipping in as Allan Oliver’s men scored four for the second time in as many outings.
Three minutes into the second period former Darlington winger Lambert volley from the edge of area nestled in the top corner.
Owens headed in the fourth in the 68th minute after some great work by Paul Broom down the left.
Aycliffe had plenty of chances to add more goals to their play, but the four they had to settle for was enough to take them top of Division One above Bedlington and Marske on goal difference.
