Aycliffe stunned the league leaders taking all three points on Peter Dixon's return to his old club. In the end Aycliffe were rewarded for the hard work they put in to the game with the team including several ex West players in their ranks. Jordan Laidler was one of those playing against his old team and put in an outstanding performance.
It could have been very different. Although Aycliffe started positively it was West that had the early chances and should have scored after 20mins when Richardson blasted the ball over the bar with an open goal in front of him.
Aycliffe responded well but were frustrated by a spate of offsides. Laidler finally beat the trap on 33 mins but his great cross was beaten away by the keeper. Just three minutes later Laidler was through again but this time the keeper could do nothing as he slotted the ball past him into the net.
With half-time approaching Aycliffe made it two nil. Stuart Banks had a great shot saved but Aaron Brown was quick to get to the rebound tapping the ball home from close range.
The second half saw Aycliffe kicking uphill but any fears their fans had that West might be able to pull it back were dispelled on 56 mins by a stunning goal from Laidler. The West keeper made a poor clearance which fell to the Aycliffe forward who volleyed home from over 25 yards.
West Auckland tried to recover but were denied by some good work from James Winter who kept his second clean sheet for Aycliffe in 4 days.
