Busy September programme under way

Newton Aycliffe had a mixed week, beating a good Silsden (Keighley) side 2-1 at home in the FA Vase on Saturday, but then losing 5-0 away to title favourites Stockton Town on Wednesday night in the league.
Newton Aycliffe played very well in the first half against Silsden and deservedly had a 2-0 lead at half time through an own goal and one from centre forward Dean Thexton. Silsden threw everything at Aycliffe in the second half and got one goal back through Shazad, but Aycliffe held on and will play Jarrow in the next round.
Unfortunately, Aycliffe had to field a weakened side against unbeaten Stockton Town. Injuries and holidays meant it was always going to be a tough ask, and so it proved. Aycliffe were 3-0 within 20 minutes through two goals by Owens and one from Hayes. Aycliffe were vastly improved in the second half and held their own until Owens scored his third and fourth goals in the last five minutes of the match.
Next match is away to Consett on Saturday 7th September at 3pm.
